MultiVersus, WB’s Smash Bros clone which gonna launch next week, just added two more popular faces to its strange roster: An agent Smith from The Matrix films and Friday The 13th’s hockey-mask-wearing killer Jason Voorhees. Fortnite, be afraid, there’s a new IP fever dream simulator on the block!
Well, I guess, MultiVersus ain’t that new as it was previously released during an extended open beta that kick-started in 2022. It was then removed from stores in 2023 as its makers played around with the free-to-play platform fighter showcasing iconic WB-owned characters like Wonder Woman, Steven Universe, Velma, and uh…Lebron James from Space Jam. And now, MultiVersus is finally making a comeback on May 28 with a few extra friends.
On May 20, WB Games dropped a brand-new launch trailer for MultiVersus featuring confirmed characters—including the recently declared Joker voiced by Mark Hamill. But the big news arrives at the trailer’s conclusion. Surrounded by enemies, The Joker summons some support in the form of Jason Voorhees and Agent Smith.
WB Games confirmed in a press release that these new characters are part of the game’s first season, Puns & Villainy. Jason and The Joker gonna be playable on May 20, while Agent Smith will be added later in the season.
While WB Games is understandably building up this as a major reveal, we already guessed these characters were likely goin’ to be in the game thanks to folks datamining the beta, which unveiled a list of yet-to-be-confirmed fighters that might show up in MultiVersus in future seasons.
